Mentoring through Gaming for Neurodivergent Youth

Social skill development through gaming
AutMentor provides one-on-one support to neurodivergent youth through gaming, helping them with social engagement and communication, and building confidence.
Iain offers a safe and enjoyable environment for young people to receive personalised mentoring from a compassionate parent with hands-on lived experience supporting an autistic child.
AutMentor can also facilitate introduction to online peers, fostering friendship and understanding in a welcoming community.

We utilise gaming and tailored mentorship to offer neurodivergent youth a nurturing and transformative space for social interaction, skill-building, and personal development.

Our mentoring programme empowers youth to form strong friendships, tackle challenges, and excel in both digital and real-life scenarios.
AutMentor’s Approach to Connection and Growth via Gaming
At AutSupport NZ we believe that connection and personal growth are key to everyone's journey.
We know that social situations and busy places can be tough, especially for those on the autism spectrum.
Iain's approach focuses on creating welcoming spaces where young people can grow, make meaningful friendships, and learn important life skills with support.

Gaming: A Tool for Skill Building
Gaming is a powerful tool for connecting and developing skills in neurodivergent youth, especially those with autism.
Using a range of games across different platforms, youth can engage in cooperative gameplay, problem-solving activities, and creative expression.
As an experienced gamer and mentor, Iain provides a safe environment where participants can explore, learn, and thrive. In one-on-one or group settings, Iain encourages positive social interactions, promotes teamwork, and enables perseverance and confidence building in each participant.

Your AutMentor journey starts here
To enrol in the AutMentor programme, contact Iain here. Iain will arrange a chat to discuss goals for mentorship sessions and create a bespoke plan for you or your young person.
A personalised gaming experience
By focusing on each young person's interests, AutMentor creates an engaging environment that supports young people to develop in confidence outside of gaming too.
Whether you're into building together in Minecraft, battling in Fortnite, the fast-paced action of Spiderheck, or exploring the many games on Roblox, the AutMentor programme makes sure everyone can enjoy activities they love through gaming.
Participants can also suggest games they're interested in, making gaming more personal and giving a sense of control and involvement. Iain predominantly uses Xbox and Steam consoles.
We offer AutMentor across different consoles based on game choice and individual preferences.
Please share your preferred games when you inquire, and I can let you know which console is best suited to your preferences.
Testimonials
“Massive thanks to Iain for providing a way for our ND children to connect online. My son has formed a great friendship with a boy from NZ through Iain's PDA Gamer initiative. They play online together almost every day and it has been incredible seeing them forming a genuine, safe connection through gaming.
This online friendship has opened up a conversation about travelling to NZ (as my son wants to visit his new friend) which is incredible, as we haven't been able to travel in many years due to anxiety about leaving the house. Thank you Iain, I am so grateful for the opportunity you have provided us with to connect with other families who 'get it'."

“Iain and I met through an online PDA Autism support group. He has been a major catalyst in helping me find support and helping my son meet others with PDA across the globe. This has been achieved for us primarily through gaming. He created a wonderful group of PDAers who play together. This has helped my son’s confidence grow rapidly. My son now knows quite a few PDAers and they are all awesome, just like him.
Iain games alongside them and helps maintain a positive atmosphere. He engages with each child and makes them feel important and heard. He has reached out to me whenever there has been a concern about my child. I feel like my web of support is much stronger now and is still growing. I will always be so grateful to Iain for the impact he has made in our lives."
